3. Cleaning Stains- Recognize the issue and then Take Actions!

In this part, we will talk about the issues or problematic areas and then how to clean a mattress. Once you are done removing anything that is on your mattress, and then cleaning it off with a vacuum or cloth, now it is time to recognize the stains. Stains are different. Some are old and some are fresh. So, here is a step by step guidance for different issues.

A. Cleaning off Stains from Fresh Spills

It often happens that we spill liquids or food over our bed. If these stains are not cleaned immediately, then they may leave behind rigid stains. So, if you have any fresh stain over your mattress, then start with blotting it with paper or a cloth. Do, not press it hard otherwise it will penetrate deep inside the mattress. Keep a light pressure. You must immediately do this step as soon as anything spills over the mattress.

Once you are done, now make a solution of detergent and water in a bowl. Pour a little over the spill, and lightly scrub it off with an old brush. Clean off the residue with a damp cloth. This method is helpful to clean stains from drinks, tea, or any food. If you have a foam mattress, then do not overdo with the liquid mixture of detergent and water.

B. Cleaning Rigid Stains

We all have some or the other rigid stains on our mattress. If you don’t have, that’s great. But, if you do, then follow this step. Spray the liquid of vinegar and water over the stain. Now, leave this solution for 15 minutes. After 15 minutes, gently scrub it with little detergent water, and then wipe it off with a cloth. Again, make sure to not over apply the water solutions, because you do not want your mattress to get deeply wet. It should just be little, so that it can dry off.

4. Sprinkle Baking Soda all over the Mattress

People often ask how to clean a mattress with baking soda. Well, baking soda has strong properties that help in cleaning the mattress. It deals in removing the foul smells, dirt, discolouration, etc. It also helps in deodorizing the entire mattress. In this Step, you need to sprinkle the baking soda evenly all over the mattress. The amount should be generous. Now, Let the baking soda sit for 30 minutes on the mattress.  Let it absorb the bad odour and clean the mattress.

After 30 minutes, use a vacuum cleaner again to clean the residue. If you do not have a vacuum cleaner, then just use a damp cloth to wipe off the residue. Again, do not use too much water, otherwise it will penetrate inside the mattress, and we don’t want this to happen.

5. Let the Mattress Dry

Once you are done cleaning your mattress, now you must let it air dry. Open the windows of your room and switch on the fan. This will help fresh air to enter the room and replace any bad odour. The sunrays and heat will help in drying off any remaining wetness on the mattress. Also, the UV rays from the sun will help in killing any remaining bacteria.
